İZMİR TRADE FAIRS

Staying During Fair Season

3 min read

Held at the beginning of September, the İzmir International Fair is Türkiye's longest-running trade fair — but İzmir's exhibition calendar does not end there. Sector fairs follow one another at Fuar İzmir and Kültürpark throughout the year. In those weeks hotels fill quickly and rates rise; those who plan ahead win.

İzmir's two fairgrounds

The city has two separate exhibition centres, and the transport logic for each is different. The historic fairground, Kültürpark, is in the city centre and is reachable from Bornova by metro without a change. The Fuar İzmir complex in Gaziemir hosts the modern, large-scale fairs, and the most practical way there is by car via the motorway.

If you are exhibiting, knowing which ground you are on decides your accommodation choice. For anyone who has to visit both, Bornova sits at a balanced point between them.

Why Bornova during fair season?

Central hotel rates climb sharply in fair weeks because demand concentrates all at once. Bornova is the sensible alternative for three reasons:

Price. It is away from the occupancy pressure of the centre, so room rates stay more measured. Transport. You are on the metro line and minutes from the motorway junction. Parking. For exhibitors arriving with stand materials, samples or promotional items, free parking is a small-looking advantage that pays off every single day.

If you are exhibiting: build-up and break-down days

What exhibitors often forget is that accommodation has to cover not only the fair days but the build-up and break-down days as well. The day you assemble your stand usually falls before the fair opens, and you need somewhere to stay that night too.

Factor both days into your booking and ask for a long-stay rate. If you are moving materials in your own vehicle, free parking is most useful on exactly these days.

If you are visiting: making the day count

Most fair visitors come for a single day and plan to travel back in the evening. But having come as far as İzmir, staying a night and giving the next day to the city is often the more sensible choice: the travel fatigue clears and the trip gains something. Our two-day İzmir route is ready for exactly this.

Getting around the city during fair week

On fair days, traffic and parking in the city centre both tighten. The most practical approach is to leave the car at the hotel and take the metro towards Kültürpark: no parking to worry about, and you can predict your arrival time. For the Gaziemir side the reverse applies — the motorway connection makes driving faster. We have covered İzmir's whole public transport system in our transport guide.

The three things business guests need

What our fair and congress guests value is consistent: fast, free WiFi (so the evening's report or tomorrow's presentation is not a problem), quiet rooms (a day at a fair is tiring, and sleep quality decides the next day) and room service (for the evenings you miss dinner). Our fuller business-travel notes are in the congress guide.

When to book

Fair dates are usually known months in advance — and that works in your favour. Call as soon as the dates are confirmed. For extended fair stays, or when you need several rooms, you can ask about a special rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should I stay in İzmir during a trade fair?

Central hotels both fill up and become expensive in fair weeks. Bornova, at the junction of the metro and the motorway, is a balanced alternative with access to both Kültürpark and Fuar İzmir in Gaziemir.

How do I get to Kültürpark from Bornova?

By metro, without a change. For the Fuar İzmir complex in Gaziemir, going by car via the motorway is more practical.

I am exhibiting — how many nights should I book?

Count the build-up and break-down days as well as the fair days. Including them and asking for a long-stay rate is usually the better option.

When should I book for fair season?

As soon as the dates are confirmed. Waiting for a last-minute deal does not work in these weeks; booking early is the best option for both availability and price.
